The testing process involves progressing through various levels, each with a specified number of beeps. For example, the police fitness requirement in England and Wales mandates reaching level 5.4 (the fifth level with four beeps). The entire test typically lasts approximately 3 minutes and 40 seconds.

It is important to note that the term “bleep test” is often used interchangeably with similar assessments such as shuttle runs, multistage fitness tests (MSFT), PACER tests, endurance assessments, and incremental running tests.
